Users and Login Options

A user is anyone working with the SERRAM system. It can be a cashier, waiter, supervisor or administrator.
To add a new user, go to 'Main Setup' in Manager and click on Users. Click on 'Add User'.

The Username can be the actual name of the user but it needs to be unique. If you have two John's working for you, you will need to make each username unique. You could for example add the first letter of the person's surname to his username.

The password will be the password that he will use when logging in. If you are using a touch screen system and you are not using a card reader for log in, you should make the password numbers only. That way the user can use the on screen key pad to log in.

The name and surname fields are optional.

What each user role (group of users) will be able to do, will depend on how you set up the Task Security. For more on Task Security see: Task Security

Using Card Readers or Scanners to log in users

You can use a card system to log in users instead of usernames and passwords. The card system can be any card system with a reader that will return a unique employee number to the computer. If you don't have a card reader, you can also simply print barcodes (containing the employee numbers) on pieces of paper that you laminate for employee cards. You can then use your barcode scanner to scan the employee card.

If you want to use a card system to log in users, you need to enter the Card Number for each user. A card number is the number on the card that will be returned each time the card is swiped or scanned.

In addition to this, you also need to do the following:
In Manager, under 'Main Setup', select 'System Configuration'. Go to the Cash Drawers/Shifts tab and check the box that says: 'Use Card Reader for log In'.

Using card readers to log in

In the POS Screens the normal log in screen will be replaced with a log in screen that can be used with the card reader or barcode scanner.
